Xia-Xia Pets – Colorful Hermit Crabs To Call Your Own

Let's face it, not many people have a crab as a pet. They just don't seem to have the personality of a dog and they can't talk like a parrot. However, thanks to Xia-Xia pets all this is about to change. Xia-Xia is actually Chinese Mandarin and is pronounced Sha-Sha and China is where these little guys spring from. So as already mentioned, the Xia-Xia pets are actually crabs, specifically hermit crabs.

Hermit crabs are crabs that live in a sea shell. This keeps them safe from harm and is a nice place to stay – it's a kind of mobile home for crabs. If you've ever seen such crabs at the beach, it is quite fascinating to see a seemingly inanimate shell spring to life and scurry across the sand.

Hermit crabs will often ditch one shell for another, usually when they get bigger than the space in the shell. Just like humans they need a bit more space so they trade up to a bigger place. They even have shell swops, where one crab moves to a bigger place and another crabs moves into the old shell. They are funny like that. And this is where Xia-Xia pets fit in.

Say Hi to the Xia-Xia Pets

Xia-Xia Pets are toy representations of these fascinating hermit crabs. They are made of brightly colored plastic and have removable shells. Part of the fun of Xia-Xia pets is that you can remove the shells and trade shells. You can also do other things with the toys but lets start with the shells.

Each pet comes with it's own shell but as already mentioned this can be removed. You can get an additional 12 shells that the crabs can “move into” when they need a change in scenery.

Currently there are 4 separate crabs that you can collect. There is  Bimini, Turks, Tobago and Trinidad. And yes, in case you were wondering, they are named after famous Caribbean islands. This may be because you are sure to see the odd hermit crab on the sunny beaches of these idyllic islands. 

Bimini is a pink crab and is a female crab. Her shell is a transparent pink color (so you can see inside the shell.

Turks is a red color and looks a bit like a lobster as she has large red claws. She has a transparent red shell.

Tobago is a blue colored fellow with a smiley face. He has prominent antennas and a large face than the others. His shell is transparent blue in color.

The final crab is Tobago. He is yellow in color and is a wise looking crab.

Each toy comes with a little friend, which is a small plastic pet for the pets so to speak. This is similar to the real life crabs that occasionally share their shell with small sea creatures that clean the shell and keep it healthy.

The toys can also move around whenever you touch their claws. This will cause them to scurry around the room. These are quirky toys that younger children are sure to love as a little companion in their room. You can also collect all four and get various play sets for them.
