The Snap Circuits SC-300 is one of a number of educational toys made by Elenco. All the
toys have an educational or scientific theme to them and are basically the stepping stones to building real

So the basic aim of the Snap Circuits SC-300 is to interest children in building electrical and
electronic gadgets. In fact you can build up to 305 little gadgets, devices and gizmos (not at the same time
unfortunately) with the supplied 60 snap together parts.
The 60 parts include a variety of snap wires, a slide switch, a resistor, a microphone, and capacitors and a
blank circuit board where the individual parts can be fixed together.
Each part is numbered and color-coded so that it is easy to find them and place them on the circuit board.
There are detailed instructions on how to put the 300 odd projects together and your children can make
functional items like a radio or a door bell.
As already mentioned, the toy is made so that all the parts snap fit together, hence the name of the toy. So it
is actually very easy to use and play with, without being dangerous or complicated. In fact, no additional tools
are needed to put the projects together.
The toy will teach children a multitude of skills. They will learn how to read manuals and follow them through
to a completed project. They will learn basic principles of electronics and how these principles can result in
usable and handy devices.
The Snap Circuits SC-300 gets it's name from the number of projects that can be done with the kit. It is
basically an expansion pack on the smaller SC-100 kit which has 100 projects to complete. So the Snap Circuits
SC-300 has an extra 300 odd projects over this.
Each projects builds in complexity from the previous project so that the child learns as he or she completes
more projects. At the end of all the projects, it is safe to say that they will understand basic electronic
circuits and how electricity works (it is not plugged into the mains by the way, 4 AA batteries provide the
electrical current).
Another great feature of the Snap Circuits SC-300 is that you can expand on it. You can get other packs that
expand on the original kit. This gives you more components and parts and more projects to try out. Ultimately, you
will be able to put your own circuits together and make your own customized devices.
It is certainly a great educational toy and something that will get your children fascinated with science and
electronics without being overly complex.
