The thinking behind the Lamaze Jacques the Peacock toy is that babies are born with senses that need to be calibrated. They have to be worn in so to speak. Research suggests that until a baby is fully accustomed to seeing, they will have black and white vision. After a few days they will begin to see in color. The colors and contrasts in the peacock's tail feathers can accelerate the development of the baby's vision.

To this extent, the peacock has a variety of colored and black and white patterns on his tail. They will hold the infants attention but will also be soothing to new eyes so that strain does not set in.

The toy also has a variety of devices that can help the baby tune in his/her ears. These are a rattle, a squeaker and crinkle on various panels of the peacocks tail feathers. The baby can push these devices to hear the sound, or a combination of sounds might be emitted as the baby snuggles up to Jacques.

The toy has a variety of textures to stimulate the babies tactile senses. These range from soft plush velor fabrics in varied textures and will ensure baby holds Jacques close to his heart.
